The history of the Libyan press and its national role

Abstract

The study was divided into two main axes: The first of them deals with the emergence of the press and its features during the Ottoman era, and includes the period extending from 1866 AD until the end of Otto-man rule in 1911 AD, and the development witnessed during it in the increase in the number of newspapers and the factors behind this development. The second axis is concerned with studying the press during the Italian era, what happened to it as a result of this stage, and the extent of its contribution to combating the occupation, while addressing some of the pioneers of the Libyan press and its editors and their national contributions to the press, in addition to addressing the publications of resident communities, such as the Jews, the extent to which they enjoy their press rights, and the activity of some Libyan intellectuals abroad during the occupation period.

قسمت الدراسة إلى محورين أساسيين؛ يتناول الأول منها نشأة الصحافة وملامحها خلال العهد العثماني، وتشمل الفترة الممتدة من عام 1866م وحتى انتهاء الحكم العثماني عام 1911م، وما شهدته خلالها من تطور في ازدياد عدد الصحف والعوامل الكامنة وراء هذا التطور. ويختص المحور الثاني بدراسة الصحافة خلال العهد الإيطالي، وما لحق بها جراء هذه المرحلة، ومدى مساهمتها في مناهضة الاحتلال مع التطرق لبعض رواد الصحافة الليبية ومحرريها وإسهاماتهم الوطنية في الصحافة، إضافة إلى التطرق إلى إصدارات الجاليات المقيمة، مثل اليهود ومدى تمتعهم بحقوقهم الصحفية، ونشاط بعض المثقفين الليبيين في الخارج إبان فترة الاحتلال.
