The Defensive Architecture in Cyrenaica during the Islamic Era From the Islamic conquest until the transition of the Fatimid Caliphate to Egypt

Abstract

This study examines the defensive fortifications of the Barqa region throughout the Islamic eras. It encompasses a comprehensive review of all the forts, citadels, and cities that extend along the coastal line of the region. The study also highlights the strategic roles played by these defensive fortifications from the Islamic conquest until the transition of the Fatimid state to Egypt. Additionally, the study provides examples of some of these fortifications, along with architectural descriptions, shedding light on the engineering and military evolution of these structures across the ages.

یتناول ھذا المقال دراسة حول التحصینات الدفاعیة لإقلیم برقة خـلال العصـور الإسـلامیة. تشـمل الدراسـة كافـة الحصـون والقلاع والمدن التي تمتد على طول الخط الساحلي للإقلـیم. تشـیر أیضـا المقالـة إلـى الأدوار الاسـتراتیجیة التـي لعبتھـا ھـذه التحصـینات الدفاعیة خلال الفترة من الفتح الإسلامي وحتى انتقال الدولة الفاطمیة إلى بلاد مصر. كما تقدم الدراسة امثلة عن بعـض ھـذه التحصـینات ووصفا معماري لھا.
